Water for Fossil Freedom? New and Ongoing Challenges in Chile's Mining Zone
2025-08-22 , Tent/Zelt 15: Food System Change and Wasserkonferenz 2025-TENT

The climate crisis is becoming more visible every day, making a change in our energy production essential. Electric cars and green hydrogen are repeatedly touted as the solution to European countries' carbon footprints. But who bears the ecological and social costs of hydrogen production and lithium mining?
Chilean activist and scientist Cristina Dorador has been working for years on the ecosystems in the Atacama Desert, which are threatened by lithium mining. She served as a constitutional delegate representing the Chilean water movement MODATIMA in the left-wing Constitutional Convention in 2021 and contributed as an environmental expert to Chile's national hydrogen strategy.
Together, we will explore what the energy transition means for Chile's water resources and how we can work toward a just energy transition for all.
The seminar will be held in English.
