Wie können wir eine andere Erzählung über Arbeit sichtbar machen?

Eine der ersten Fragen, die wir uns und anderen stellen, ist: „Was arbeitest du?" oder „Was willst du mal werden?" Arbeit prägt unser Leben, unser Bild von uns selbst und von anderen und die Art, wie unsere Gesellschaft organisiert ist. Warum aber hat Lohnarbeit einen so zentralen Stellenwert, den kaum jemand hinterfragt? Warum gilt nur als wertvoll, wofür Geld fließt? Und wie könnte eine Gesellschaft aussehen, in der Menschen ohne Existenzängste leben können?

Mit unserer Aktion „Warum arbeiten wir eigentlich – und für wen?" vor der Bundesagentur für Arbeit haben wir eine Utopie erfunden: eine Bundesagentur für Alle. Eine Institution, die Menschen nicht kontrolliert oder nach Verwertbarkeit fragt, sondern danach, was Menschen können, wollen und was gesellschaftlich gebraucht wird.

Im Workshop schauen wir gemeinsam, was das System Lohnarbeit und der Druck, ständig leistungsfähig zu sein, mit uns und der Gesellschaft machen. Wir fragen, welche wichtige Arbeit unsichtbar gemacht wird und wie das mit Klassismus und der Abwertung armutsbetroffener Menschen zusammenhängt. Wir wollen diese Erzählungen aufbrechen und überlegen, was wir brauchen, um damit gut umzugehen, etwa in unserem politisierten Leben oder in Care-Kontexten.

Zum Schluss sammeln wir Ideen für Bilder und Narrative, die eine andere Vorstellung von Arbeit wachsen lassen, und fragen, was das für aktivistische Arbeit bedeutet und wie wir gemeinsam aktiv werden können.

How can we make a different story about work visible?

One of the first questions we ask ourselves and others is: "What do you do for a living?" or "What do you want to be one day?" Work shapes our lives, the way we see ourselves and others, and how our society is organised. But why does wage labour hold such a central place that almost no one questions it? Why is something only considered valuable when money is involved? And what could a society look like in which people can live freely, without existential fears?

With our action "Why Do We Actually Work – and for Whom?" in front of the Federal Employment Agency, we invented a utopia: a Federal Agency for All. An institution that does not control people or ask about their usability, but instead asks what people can do, what they want, and what society actually needs.

In this workshop, we take a look together at what the system of wage labour and the constant pressure to be productive do to us and to society. We ask which important work is made invisible, and how this connects to classism and the devaluation of people affected by poverty. We want to break open these narratives and think about what we need in order to cope well with them, for example in our politicised lives or in care contexts.

Finally, we gather ideas for images and narratives that can grow a different understanding of work, and ask what this means for activist work and how we can become active together.
