Seit über 15 Jahren wehren sich Bäuerinnen, Bauern und indigene Gemeinschaften im Kendeng-Gebirge auf Java gegen den geplanten Zementwerk-Bau von Heidelberg Materials. Ihr friedlicher, beharrlicher Widerstand richtet sich gegen die Bedrohung ihrer Lebensgrundlagen und eröffnet zugleich Perspektiven für gerechten Umgang mit Naturressourcen.
Lin, die die Region drei Monate besucht hat, berichtet von den Menschen, ihrer Entschlossenheit und von den Schwierigkeiten, mit denen sie tagtäglich konfrontiert sind. Ihr Bericht macht deutlich, wie wirtschaftliche Interessen auf Kosten lokaler Gemeinschaften gehen und wie wichtig Respekt und Solidariät zum Schutz des Leben und des Wissen der Menschen in der Region sind.

For over 15 years, farmers and indigenous communities in the Kendeng Mountains on Java have been fighting against Heidelberg Materials’ plans to build a cement plant. Their peaceful, persistent resistance is directed against the threat to their livelihoods and, at the same time, opens up prospects for the equitable use of natural resources.
Lin, who spent three months visiting the region, reports on the people, their determination and the difficulties they face on a daily basis. Her report highlights how economic interests come at the expense of local communities and how important respect and solidarity are for protecting the lives and knowledge of the people in the region.
