Juan Pablo Gutiérrez is a human rights defender focused on indigenous peoples rights and a professor of Decolonial Studies known for his commitment to the rights of his Yukpa community.

His struggle against mining and coal activities in indigenous territories and his commitment to the selfdetermination of indigenous peoples resulted in him being labeled as a target by the paramilitary group "Aguilas Negras", who attempted to kill him twice. Today, Juan Pablo continues his work and fight from exile in Europe, where he carries out his campaign "The Globalization of Resistance", uniting different movements with the struggle of Indigenous Peoples.
