Since late 2019, New Zealand journalist and nonfiction author Dr Tom Doig (University of Queensland, Australia) has been working on a book, We Are All Preppers Now, about preppers, survivalists, climate activists and collapse-aware communities around the world. Tom will take you on a wild ride – to New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, the US and Indonesia – sharing starkly different visions of prepping. You’ll see photos of bunkers in New Mexico and South Dakota, wilderness bug-outs in Australia and New Zealand, AR-15 rifles, and organic farming projects in Java and Sumatra. You’ll hear quirky – and hopefully revealing! – anecdotes about the civilisation-threatening risks various people worry about, and the plans they’re making in the face of them. Tying it all together is Tom’s own experiences of climate-crisis grief, and his journey from doomer to happy hedonist (and back again).
