Schulden spielten von Anfang an eine zentrale Rolle im europäischen Kolonialismus. Sie dienten der Verschleierung und Legitimierung kolonialer Ausbeutung. Die kolonialen Ungleichheiten wirken bis heute fort: Staaten im Globalen Süden sind besonders anfällig für Schuldenkrisen, während Staaten im Globalen Norden ihre Macht im finanzpolitischen Bereich ausspielen.
Dieser interaktive Workshop vom deutschen Entschuldungsbündnis erlassjahr.de wirft einen Blick in die Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft – wie sichert sich der Globale Norden bis heute die Dominanz im internationalen Finanzkapitalismus, und welche Rolle spielten und spielen Schulden dabei? Was hat das heute für Auswirkungen auf Menschen in verschuldeten Ländern im Globalen Süden? Und wie kann ein gerechtes internationales Finanzsystem überhaupt aussehen?
Diesen und weiteren Fragen widmen wir uns im Workshop.

Debt played a central role in European colonialism from the very beginning. It served to conceal and legitimize colonial exploitation. The inequalities of colonialism continue to have an impact to this day: countries in the Global South are particularly vulnerable to debt crises, while countries in the Global North wield their power in the realm of fiscal policy.
This interactive workshop by the German debt relief coalition erlassjahr.de takes a look at the past, present, and future—how does the Global North maintain its dominance in international financial capitalism to this day, and what role has debt played and continues to play in this? What impact does this have today on people in indebted countries in the Global South? And what might a just international financial system actually look like?
We will address these and other questions in the workshop.
