In den letzten Jahren sind Waldbesetzungen zu einer der sichtbarsten Proteststrategien innerhalb der deutschen Bewegung für Klimagerechtigkeit geworden. Während einige Besetzungen versucht haben, Wälder vor der Ausweitung des Braunkohletagebaus und dem Bau von Autobahnen zu schützen, wehrt sich eine neuere Besetzung südlich von Frankfurt gegen die Erweiterung einer Sand- und Kiesgrube, die von einem lokalen Unternehmen betrieben wird.
Ausgehend von dieser Besetzung geht dieser Vortrag verschiedenen Spuren dieser Fallstudie als Beispiel für zeitgenössische sozial-ökologische Konflikte nach, die sich um den Schutz der Wälder vor dem Sand- und Kiesabbau drehen. Eine Spur folgt Waldbesetzungen als Proteststrategie, in der andere Formen und Alternativen von Mensch-Natur und Mensch-Wald-Beziehungen gedacht und praktiziert werden. Die nächste Spur folgt den globalen Warenströmen von Sand und Kies bis hin zu den lokalen Kämpfen gegen diese Form der Ausbeutung natürlicher Ressourcen (Extraktivismus) und der Kommodifizierung der Natur. Die letzte Spur verweist auf die Auswirkungen von Sand- und Kiestagebaus auf die lokalen Wälder, die lokale Bevölkerung und die lokalen Kämpfe um Klimagerechtigkeit.

In recent years, forest occupations have become one of the most visible protest strategies within the German climate justice movement. While some occupations have sought to protect forests from the expansion of open-cast lignite mining and the construction of motorways, a more recent occupation south of Frankfurt is resisting the expansion of a sand and gravel pit operated by a local company.
Taking this occupation as a starting point, this lecture traces various threads of this case study as an example of contemporary socio-ecological conflicts centred around the protection of forests from sand and gravel extraction. One thread follows forest occupations as a protest strategy in which other forms and alternatives of human-nature and human-forest relations are conceived and practised. The next thread follows the global commodity flows of sand and gravel through to local struggles against this form of exploitation of natural resources (extractivism) and the commodification of nature. The last thread refers to the effects of sand and gravel mining on local forests, the local population and local struggles for climate justice.
