Während der Internationale Gerichtshof (IGH) eine unbedingte völkerrechtliche Verpflichtung für alle Staaten zur Einhaltung des 1,5-Grad-Limit Erderwärmung feststellt, weil dies zur Wahrung der Menschenrechte unabdingbar ist, verspricht die EU-Kommission Trump in den nächsten Jahren für 750 Mrd. Dollar Energierohstoffe in den USA einzukaufen - vor allem LNG-(Fracking-)Gas - und die Gas-Lobby kann mit Hilfe der neuen CDU-Bundeswirtschaftsministerin einen Punktsieg nach dem anderen einspielen. Vor diesem Hintergrund müssen Großstädte bis Ende Juni 2026 ihre kommunale Wärmeplanung fertigstellen. Da Wärme bisher überwiegend mit fossilen Gas erzeugt wird, ist die kommunale Wärmewende ein entscheidendes Terrain für den Kampf um den Ausstieg aus fossilem Gas. Vom Umbau der Wärmeversorgung ist fast jeder Haushalt betroffen. Diese Transformation birgt daher enormen sozialen und politischen Sprengstoff, im Kampf um das Klima, Gerechtigkeit und Demokratie. V.a. am Beispiel Frankfurt soll es in diesem Workshop um die Fallstricke des Kampfs für eine soziale Wärmewende gehen.

While the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has established an unconditional obligation under international law for all states to comply with the 1.5-degree limit for global warming, as this is essential to the protection of human rights, the EU Commission is promising Trump $750 billion in energy resources to be purchased from the US over the next few years – primarily LNG (fracking) gas – and the gas lobby, with the help of the new CDU Federal Minister of Economics, is scoring one point after another. Against this backdrop, major cities must complete their municipal heat planning by the end of June 2026. Since heat has so far been generated predominantly with fossil gas, the municipal heat transition is a crucial area for the fight to phase out fossil gas. The restructuring of the heating supply system affects almost every household. This transformation therefore carries enormous social and political dynamism in the fight for climate, justice, and democracy. This workshop will explore the pitfalls of the fight for a social heating transition, particularly using Frankfurt as an example.
